I had hard time watching it.
If anything describes Armstrongism, its endemic snarkiness.
The doctrines may change but the attitudes remain the same.
I've been trying hard to pin down in words the essence of WCG leadership over the years.
Tonite on Bill Mahr's Realtime was Oliver Stone. He was discribing the difference between Nixon (and he's no fan of Nixon) and Reagan/Bush Sr/Bush Jr President's. He described Nixon as being 3 dimensional and capable of self-loathing and introspection, that was absent in following Republican Presidents.
I thought that summed up pretty well WCG and Splinter leadership over the years too.
There's ridicule and put down of others instead of introspection and self-reflection during times of stress.
an important issue has arisen, did tkach make an outright purchase of azusa pacific university or did they FINANCE the school's building boom?
either way, church assets were illegally seized and transmuted without memship approval into funds to personally benefit tkach.
in other words EMBEZZELMENT!
rumours continue that hoeh, meredith and the other "LEADERS" were given generous "SETTLEMENTS" and forced to sign "CONFIDENTIALITY" agreements that prohibited them from speaking against the theft.
that is the reason the "leaders" sat by and kept their mouths shut when 90% of the members oposed the "CHANGES."
as a christian i realized over a decade ago that old testament law was not required of christians. Armstrong also knew this. in fact the entire ministry knew it but they needed the 3 tithes and holy day offerings and that 3rd tithe was needed to buy ministers new cars and furniture for their new homes.
though no tears are shed for the end of wcg, the fact remains that tkach had no right to STEAL the members money.
no amount of legal analysis can justify taking money solicited for one purpose and then using it for another purpose.
the members were promised that their believes, right or wrong would be preserved. relying upon those assurances the emembers funded the church.
tkack deliberately lied and continued to assure the members that their investment would be protected while he secretly transmuted their tithe money into his own personal investment, azusa-paciific university.
"though no tears are shed for the end of wcg, the fact remains that tkach had no right to STEAL the members money."
Well, that's certainly a change of tune from YOU, Larry.
Here's my question, though: As a current member of Grace Communion International, what are you going to do about it?
Well, Larry? Think Gracie is so normatively Christian, that you would be able to get away with saying stuff like this in church?
Think again......
